Stop-Motion

Indigo’s Dreams opens with a cutscene utilizing Claymation. Stop-Motion animation is something I have excitedly practiced since I first saw the film Nightmare Before Christmas as a child.

This water animation is made using a combination of stop-motion animation and pixel art techniques

Process

  • Drew digital outline of the shape of the water.

  • Printed the outline on pieces of paper and traced to translate that onto blue colored cardboard.

  • Set up a red screen oppose to a green screen so the water wouldn’t blend with the background and took photos as I slowly shifted the water sideways.

  • Each frame of animation needed to go straight to Photoshop to have the red screen edited out.

  • Pixelated the water in Gamemaker for efficiency since that’s where my game lives.

  • Programmed the movement, layering, and more, then QA tested to ensure everything works as intended.
